Texas A&M Cadets Sweep 2014 SPP Southwest Winter Regional

Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit (CCMU) Sweeps 2014 SPP Southwest Winter Regional.

The second annual SPP Southwest Winter Regional Championship was hosted by The Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit, and sponsored by Glock. In attendance at the match were "The Gunny" R. Lee Ermey, and former Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Gene Overstreet, USMC(ret).

In the largest match of its kind in the history of the Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP), the CCMU took first place in Centerfire and Rimfire Divisions, and the award for top individual collegiate shooter in those two divisions was also awarded to members of the CCMU. The CCMU won the match Glock Championship Trophy for second year in row shooting Glock 34 pistols.

The CCMU Maroon Centerfire team took first place in College Centerfire and was the overall Match Champion with a record setting time of 207.11 seconds for the four man team. Cadet Matthew Hawes '13 of Wylie, Texas, was awarded the individual award as the top Centerfire shooter with a match time of 50.23 seconds.

The CCMU Maroon Rimfire team took first place in College Rimfire. The CCMU White Rimfire Team, lead by Cadet Naomi Boyer '16, of Blooming Grove, TX, also took the award for second place in College Rimfire. Maroon team member Cadet Jason Cusack '16, of Anchorage, Alaska, was award the individual award as top Rimfire shooter with a match time of 51.68 seconds.

The next competition for the CCMU before competing in the SPP National Championship at Ft Benning, Ga. in March will be shooting in the Texas State Carbine Championship in Corpus Christi, TX on February 16th.

The CCMU was officially formed in December of 2011, but today's squad represents the latest in over 100 years of history of marksmanship teams competing for the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. The CCMU fields competitors in the action pistol sports, steel pistol sports, 3-gun, highpower and international trap and skeet. Team members are drawn exclusively from the 2,300 men and women of the Corps of Cadets who are all undergraduates at Texas A&M. Scholarships and in-state tuition are also available for CCMU cadets.
