The Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) just finished its second State Championships this past weekend in shooting sports. The teams all came together in Savannah, Georgia at Forest City Gun club for the event which consisted of 193 participants from 21 schools around the state. The number of students participating increased 24% over last year's inaugural attendance, and there are already enough new teams ready to compete next year to suggest the same or more growth for the 2015 season.

Schools attending the 2014 GISA State Championships included: Brookwood, Bulloch Academy, Fullington Academy, Gatewood Schools, Griffin Christian High school, Heritage School, John Hancock Academy, John Milledge Academy, Lakeview Academy, Piedmont Academy, Robert Toombs Christian Academy, Stratford Academy, Strong Rock Christian School, Tiftarea Academy, Trinity Christian-Dublin, Trinity Christian, Valwood School, Westfield, Westwood School, Windsor Academy, and Woodward Academy. (Woodward Academy is the largest independent private school in the continental United States).

Gatewood Schools shooting team from Eatonton, Georgia, which is 2-Time Olympic Gold Medalist and 2-Time ISSF World Champion Vincent Hancock's Alma Mater, won High Overall Honors, to become the 2014 State Champions. Westwood Academy from Camilla, Georgia took runner-up honors, while John Milledge Academy from Milledgeville, Georgia placed third.

Hancock Youth Education in Shooting Sports (HYESS), a non-profit organization started by the Hancock Family in honor of their son Vincent's accomplishments, furnished and presented trophies and distributed $115,000.00 in endowments to the teams competing in the event. Through a grant made possible by the Midway Foundation, to date, HYESS has contributed $150,000.00 in endowments this year to shotgun teams in Georgia in its ongoing efforts to educate and grow youth shooting.
