Lake Oconee Takes Fourth National Title With Intermediate/Entry Level Div. Sporting Clays Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lake Oconee Shotgun Team's Intermediate/Entry Level Division squad picked up their second national title, adding Sporting Clays to their Doubles Skeet title, and brought the overall team's total of title wins to four at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

The Georgia shooters combined for 520 targets to give the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team the Sporting Clays title. Leading the way for Lake Oconee was the division's Top Gun, Baylor Garland of Eatonton, who broke 184 of his 200 targets. Hank Hall, also of Eatonton, added another 176 targets while Tyler Urrutia of Greensboro broke 160.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Lake Oconee led a one, two, three finish for Georgia shooting teams as the Etowah Valley Mambas finished second with 452 and Bridge Creek Clays in third with 451.

Leading the Etowah Valley Mambas was Rennie Wilson III of Buford with 162, followed by Benjamin Karcher of Ball Ground with 149 and Davis Zeigler of Jasper with 141.

Brady Ragan of Camilla broke 173 targets to lead the Bridge Creek Clays squad in their third place finish. Jackson Scott of Leesburg added 154 while Taylor Wray of Camilla broke 124.

Tennessee's Str8 Shooters Clay Team took fourth with 442. Blythe and Brae Booker of Soddy Daisy broke 167 and 150 respectively, followed by Daniel Colloms of Chattanooga with 125.

Rounding out the top five was the FishHawk Dynasty squad from Florida with 441 targets. Nash Sollmann of Plant City led FishHawk with 150, followed by the division's female Top Gun Abigale Wigh of Dover with 148 and Trentin Hagan of Riverview with 143.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
