Iowa's North Scott Trap Team Wins JV Div. Doubles Trap National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a final target count of 915, the North Scott Trap Team of Iowa took home the Doubles Trap title in the Junior Varsity Division during competition at the 2017 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

Dropping just 8 of 200 targets, Thomas Keeshan of Princeton led the Iowa team followed by Jaydon Biles (Princeton) with 189, Jacob Dies (Princeton) with 182, Nick Kunde (Princeton) with 177 and Grace Bjustrom of Eldridge with 175.

Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, more than 2,300 athletes representing 29 states faced over one million clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Second place went to the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars Trap Team, also of Iowa, with a total of 839 broken targets. William Merk led the Jags with 172 followed by Chase Martin with 171, Joshua Jorgensen with 170, Jackson Bresson with 166 and Kael Richmond with 160. All five members of the team are from Ankeny.

Coming in third place with 809 targets was the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team of Georgia. A pair of Eatonton shooters, Baylor Garland and Graham Eubanks, led the team with 178 each. Riley Downs of Mitchell added another 177 followed by Hank Hall of Eatonton with 152 and Hagen Young of McIntyre with 124.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 14,800 students and more than 3,300 adult volunteers across 45 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
