Turnbull Joins NSSF Awareness Campaign for Suicide Prevention

Turnbull Restoration is proud to announce that they are joining with the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to bring more attention to the mental health issues that lay behind so many of the firearm related tragedies we all read about. It is a little talked about fact that a large number of those are suicides.

“When I read the data that’s been published, I was truly surprised to see how many tragedies were a result of suicide,” said CEO and Founder Doug Turnbull. “Once that information was in my head, I knew we had to step up and see how we could help.”

Turnbull continues, “Around that same time, we noticed one of the campaign’s awareness posters at Murray State College Gunsmithing School. We became aware of the NSSF’s partnership with AFSP and immediately offered to help how and where we could. The people at NSSF made us aware of their brochure as well as the poster.”

“We’re now including the brochure “Firearms and Suicide Prevention” in the packaging for every firearm that leaves our facility. While this seems a small step, it’s a vital one,” Turnbull emphasizes. ”Consider as well that firearm owners bear a responsibility to prevent unauthorized use and should know if the people around them are at risk for suicide. The brochure provides a good guide as well as contact information for help.”

“But this is more than including a brochure in our packages,” Turnbull notes. “We’re starting the process of educating firearm owners as to what to look for when it comes to risk for suicide. This is about more than firearms. This is about saving lives, and the brochure marks a beginning.”

The partnership between NSSF and AFSP that Turnbull is promoting is dedicated to helping firearms retailers, shooting range operators and customers understand risk factors and warning signs related to suicide, know where to find help and encourage secure firearms storage options.

“I want to thank the NSSF and AFSP for starting this partnership,” states Turnbull. “We’re proud to be an active participant and I encourage my peers across our industry to join us in this initiative.”

In addition to including the brochure with all firearm deliveries, Turnbull Restoration will have the program materials in their showroom as well as at trade shows where they are exhibiting. The company will continue to help in this cause as it grows and evolves. In the meantime, Turnbull Restoration asks that people make themselves aware of the information and to not be afraid to have important conversations about suicide prevention.
