Firearms Policy Coalition announced its strong opposition to the Department of Justice’s recently proposed merger of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The dangerous proposal would consolidate the ATF and DEA into an authoritarian “super-agency” with the combined powers to wage the failed war on drugs and enforce unconstitutional federal gun control laws against all Americans.

Gun Owners of America led a coalition of top firearms manufacturers and industry leaders in urging Congress to repeal the unconstitutional gun taxes imposed under the National Firearms Act of 1934. In a letter sent to Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, GOA and its No Compromise Alliance partners demanded that lawmakers use budget reconciliation to pass the Hearing Protection Act and the Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today (SHORT) Act—fully and without compromise.

The Firearms Policy Coalition responded to a report that said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, the top civil rights official in the Department of Justice, is “considering making gun rights a formal priority” of the Civil Rights Division. Among numerous other proposed reforms, FPC has been encouraging the White House and DOJ to create and staff a First and Second Amendment section within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
