Back In Black(out)... SSG
Daniel Horner of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit made it back to the winner's circle at the DPMS MultiGun Nationals where for the third year in a row, the fourth time since 2007, he won the Tactical division title. However, this time around he did it with the new 300 BLK round from Advanced Armament Corp. (AAC). The 300 BLK was rolled out
earlier this year and promptly adopted by SAAMI. AAC says there are already more than 60 companies now making products for it and Freedom Group sister company Remington will soon offer UMC ammo priced at $12.99 per box. Good thing too, because if you're planning to take on Horner for that national title you're going to need a helluva lot more than one box...
and good luck with that.

Honey Badger FTW... OK, this is totally inside baseball but, speaking of the 300 BLK, the high speed, low drag black ops guys have apparently whittled down the list of new PDW guns they are considering to the "
Honey Badger" from AAC and the "whatever-they-are-calling-it" from Sig Sauer. Word is that Sig is the front runner though AAC clearly should get bonus points for the cool name. This is going to be a relatively small contract but one highly coveted because of who will be using them. In the end though, and just like the Honey Badger, AAC don't care, because whichever gun the deadly-stealthy-ninja-warriors go with it will have an AAC can on it.
Now back to our regularly scheduled shooting sports news...
Katie Bar The Door... So, you're a 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas for the weekend, what do you do for fun? Win the Women's Tactical division title at the DPMS MultiGun Nationals of course. At least that's what you'd do if you were
Katie Harris. With a score of 1417.7983 she finished 34th overall in a division with 106 total shooters. You won't be surprised to find out that she was also the top junior in the division. Yesterday the Noveske Shooting Team announced that Katie "will be coming on board as the third member of the Noveske Shooting Team" for the 2012 shooting season. Question is which other companies will realize the potential this young lady has and sign her to their shooting team.
The Rest Of The Story... 'Mr. President'
Michael Voigt won the MultiGun Open div. title edging out
Jerry Miculek. One of these two has taken this title since 2004 with Voigt winning it in '09, '06 and '04 and Miculek in '10, '08, '07 and '05. Among the women,
Kay Miculek (12th overall) picked up another national title to go with her Open div. wins in '08 and '07.
Jake Denno finished as the top Junior in the division.
Kurt Miller captured the Limited title while
Barry Dueck claimed the Heavy Metal Tactical championship.

Later Gator... The 2011 Gator Classic is in the books and it's safe to say that when it comes to the Limited title at this match,
Blake Miguez is gonna win...I guar-ron-tee. Miguez won it this year and has won the title over and over and over again, almost to the point that other Limited shooters probably ask themselves "why bother?" Among the women,
Tory Matthews took top honors in Limited. In Limited-10
James Louque won the title with
Sheryl Keith finishing as the top woman.
Eddie Garcia and
Kaci Cochran won the Open titles,
Matt Mink and
Carrie Carlson won Production,
Donnie Miculek and
Barbara Thibodaux took Single Stack while the husband and wife wheelgunning duo of
Elliot and
Annette Aysen finished one-two in the Revolver division.
Australian Rules ICORE... The
results are in from the
land down under, which hosted one of the seven championships in the 2011 ICORE Regional Series presented by Smith & Wesson. Yes, Australia hosted one of the regionals and it's pretty safe to assume not too many Americans made it to that event. But there are some serious wheelgunners in Australia so why not make them a region of the United States shooting community. We like them, right? Here's the roll call of Australian champions:
Clay Donnan (332.85) and
Anita Mackiewicz (428.65) won Open,
Alex Turner (3rd overall w/ 337.76) and
Carol Sheppard (688.07) claimed Limited and
Jason Anderson (485.01) took Classic.
Nothing New In New England... The final ICORE regional of the season was held this past weekend in New York. The New England Regional - an actual region in the United States, unlike those 'posers' in Australia - had little new news to report as
Daivd Olhasso won Open and finished High Overall with 127.99.
Janet Leach placed eighth in Open with 264.53. In the Limited division
Bob Powell won the title with 206.54 and
Maryann Melisi finished with 394.30. And
Craig Buckland, make that Craig "I'll shoot the match dressed like Batman if I want" Buckland, (yeah, he actually did that) won the Classic division with 179.00 and finished sixth among all shooters. Buckland has championed the Classic division in the region and because of his efforts, Classic division shooters outnumbered Limited division shooters at the match. Take note all you ICORE match directors, the Batman costume just might be the key to recruiting more shooters to the Classic division.
American Shooters Keep The Medals Coming... After Team USA swept through Greece at the IPSC World Shoot, members of the broader Team USA are out there picking up medals. At the Palma match in Brisbane, Australia U.S. shooters in the team event took bronze, just 12 points behind South Africa, Great Britain took gold 35 points ahead of South Africa. In individual competition, the USA's
John Whidden won the Queens Match and
Tom Whitaker won the Veterans event. In the Under-25 team competition Team USA delivered a one-two punch to the competition with the Young Eagles Red squad taking gold and the Young Eagles Blue squad winning silver.

In Guadalajara, Mexico at the Pan Am Games, USA Shooting's
Kim Rhode proved why she's ranked #1 in the world among women skeet shooters as she took the gold medal. SGT
Vincent Hancock of the USAMU won gold in Men's Skeet. In Men's 50m Rifle Three Position event SFC
Jason Parker won the gold medal with silver going to teammate
Matt Wallace.
Sarah Beard claimed the bronze medal in Women's 50m Rifle Three Position.
Emil Milev won the gold medal in Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol.
Not to be outdone, USA Archery's men won team gold while the women won team silver. In individual competition
Brady Ellison won Men's gold and
Miranda Leek won Women's silver.
