The QI holster from Comp-Tac Victory Gear is a multifit, bilateral IWB holster. The cant can be altered to meet the user's need. |
The Q holsters from
Comp-Tac Victory Gear are multi-fit holsters designed to lessen that "pile of holsters" handgun people often end up with. Three holsters in four sizes cover a range of modern popular pistols – and two of the holster styles are bilateral, can be used for right-handed shooters or left handed interchangeably.
Size 1 Q holsters cover "standard size" modern striker-fired pistols – Glock 9/40/357 as well as the Glock 41 and Glock 36, M&P9/40/357 and Walther PPQ/M2. Size 2 covers another range of MSFP including CZ P07/09, HK VPs, P30s, USPs and P2000, Ruger SR9, G20/21/40, SIG P250, Walther PPQ .45 and others. Size 3 fits G43, Springfield XD/S, S&W Shield, Walther PPS and CCP. Size 4 is for a range of 1911-pattern pistols.
That's it. For two of the three holster styles, you simply move the mounting hardware to the other side and it's left-handed, a good deal if you've sustained an injury or simply to train with that "other" hand.
The QI is an inside the waist holster with a belt clip. It's described as "easy-on and easy-off." It is bilateral with mounting holes on both sides of the holster body – use it on the right side or the left. The holster shell is open meaning that it will take similar frame-size pistols across slide/barrel lengths. For example, set it to fit the Glock 19 and you can use the Glock 26 "mini-Glock" and the Glock 34 long slide.
At a neutral cant, the holster did not sit too high and it kept the Gen. 4 Glock 19 hidden under a sweatshirt. |
You can adjust the cant 30° -- the holster arrived in the more-or-less "FBI cant" (muzzle rear). In trying to set it to neutral cant, I determined the upper mounting holes on the shell didn't line up with the shell. Randi Rogers told me that there was no way they found to get the upper holes to line up for a neutral cant and have the rest of the rig work. With some trepidation, I set the clip on the lower mounting holes for a neutral cant and wore the pistol on errands and around the property – the carry height was just fine.
The butt of the pistol did not tip "out." I was happy with that.
The sight channel is extreme for those with 'suppressor-height' sights and the holster mouth is wide, making holstering easy.
The belt clip, when set in the backward rake – forward cant, sets out from the holster body. The thin web "BDU" type belt is not thick enough to engage the clip on both sides. A Wilderness Tactical belt or thicker is much better. With the holster in a neutral cant, the clip works fine on the BDU belt.
The QB holster is the outside-the-waist option in the Q-series. Like the QI it's bilateral, has an extreme sight channel. |
The QB is an outside the waist holster that shares a range of features with the QI – the Kydex shell, open-ended bottom for varying lengths of pistol slides, retention adjustment, bilateral nature of the holster (right or left side carry), funneled holster mouth and large sight channel.
In differs in mounting attachment, a nifty push-button mount, to attach to your belt, to MOLLE webbing or elsewhere. The button locks into place and the mount is widely adjustable for cant.
The QH, not tested here, is for right side carry
only at this point. A hybrid design, the Kydex shell forms the pouch and a leather backer goes against your body. The sizing is the same as the other Q holsters.
The QB has a neat push-button mounting system adjustable for belt width. |
The QI and QB holsters made several trips to the range and the QI got worn with a Gen. 4 Glock 19 for general concealed carry duties. I adjusted neither holster for retention – something I'd have to adjust to check different fits. I haven't yet checked the fits across platforms, but found the M&P standard size (9/40) guns and the Glock 30S (
not the Glock 30/30SF) fit just fine. This tells me the quite popular and value-priced S&W SD9VE and its SD40VE stable mate – good fits in all M&P holsters I've tried so far -- will fit the Size 1 holsters. The new Ruger American Pistol does not fit the Size 1, making me believe it will fit in Size 2 holsters – check with Comp-Tac Victory Gear before you order a Size 2 Q Series rig for your Ruger American though. I don't have a Size 2 to check.
Go easy when changing fits on Q holsters. There is no need to back either retention screw out completely. If you need to do that to "make it fit," it's a no-go. I had to tighten the QB up from the "Glock" size to fit an M&P9C. Loosening it back to fit the 9/40 Glock configuration allowed it to fit the slim-slide G30S.
The price is right, Comp-Tac is a reliable manufacturer of long experience and the holsters will fit what you have. The Q Series is simple and simple tends to be good.
