Williamsburg, KY – Flint River Archery, in conjunction with the Iowa ASA Federation, held a 3D regional qualifier at Big Hollow Recreation Area in Sperry, Iowa. As archers and spectators emerged from their vehicles, they headed towards the big pond and the wooded area to meet with range officials at the head of the range. Archers from Crooked Creek S3DA Club, Rigney’s School of Archery (RSA), Flint River Archery Club and The Outdoorsman Sport Shop greeted each other, got their scorecards, and prepared to compete.
Iowa S3DA State Coordinator, Denissa Cornick said, “We are off to a great start in Iowa, and it is great to see so many youth archers getting outside to shoot some 3D archery together. I heard lots of laughter and saw many smiles on the course. This is what makes everything we are doing worth it. The youth is what this is all about.”
One of the spectators said, “The range was well marked, and the staff did a wonderful job organizing the event. The archers really seemed to enjoy the variety of shots and the different terrain. One side of the range was flat while the other side had more hills and more downhill shots. It was nice to see things mixed up a bit and the course a little more challenging and fun.”
If you live in Iowa and are interested in becoming an archery instructor, have a child that is interested in archery, or simply would like to start an archery team in your area, be sure to visit the Iowa S3DA Facebook page and reach out to Denissa Cornick for more information on the Iowa S3DA program.
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
