National television conversation spotlight’s hunters’ and anglers’ enduring contributions to wildlife conservation.
Award-winning television producer, host and author Chris Dorsey joined NewsNation's Katie Pavlich Tonight to discuss President Donald Trump's recent initiatives expanding hunting and fishing opportunities and the indispensable role sportsmen and women have played in America's conservation story.
The conversation examined Trump's September 17 executive order, "Reinvigorating America's Hunting Heritage," which directs federal agencies to expand outdoor access, improve access infrastructure, address landlocked public parcels and encourage the next generation of hunters. The order also calls for greater accessibility for people with disabilities and recognition of America's sporting traditions.
The appearance follows the Interior Department's August announcement adding 1,488 hunting and fishing opportunities at 111 refuges and fish hatcheries across 32 states. Interior reported that more than 92 million acres of National Wildlife Refuge System lands are now available for hunting—a systemwide total reflecting existing and expanded access.
Dorsey connected those developments to the conservation partnership built by hunters, anglers, outdoor businesses and wildlife agencies. Since 1937, federal wildlife and sport fish restoration programs have distributed more than $31 billion, financed through excise taxes on sporting equipment and certain fuels. Those investments support wildlife management, habitat, education and public access, benefiting far more than the species pursued by hunters and anglers.
The segment brought that story to a national audience, exploring why opportunities to hunt and fish matter not only to sporting families but also to the future of wildlife conservation.
