Montana: FWP Proposes Easement Purchase for Future Shooting Range Near Logan

HELENA – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is looking to purchase an easement to 86.4 acres of state land near Logan to explore upgrading the existing shooting area and build a more formal and safe shooting range.

FWP released an environmental assessment (EA) today for public comment on the proposed easement acquisition, which would encompass an area south of Interstate 90 that is currently used as an informal shooting area.

If the easement is approved, FWP would begin the process of developing a shooting range, which would involve further environmental review and public involvement.

Recreational shooters have used the area encompassed by the proposed easement for years, despite safety concerns and the lack of safe shooting infrastructure. If approved, FWP would leverage federal funding to purchase the easement from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
