The Story Behind Jaclyn and Shane Bryan’s 2.4 Mile Record Shot
On March 25th, 2023, one of Athlon Optics original PRS Pro Team members, turned ELR shooter—Jaclyn Bryan—made a record-setting 4,227 yard shot during a competition. Accompanied by her husband and spotter—Shane Bryan— the duo worked together and claimed the record for second longest confirmed shot in competition history.
The Story Behind Jaclyn and Shane Bryan’s 2.4 Mile Record Shot
On March 25th, 2023, one of Athlon Optics original PRS Pro Team members, turned ELR shooter—Jaclyn Bryan—made a record-setting 4,227 yard shot during a competition. Accompanied by her husband and spotter—Shane Bryan— the duo worked together and claimed the record for second longest confirmed shot in competition history. Jaclyn successfully impacted the 72” target using a mix of skill, a high-end rifle build, and the high-quality, UHD riflescope: Athlon’s Cronus BTR.
Athlon spoke with Jaclyn and Shane to find out more about what it takes to be successful in Extreme Long Range competitions—and unpacked what took place the day she set the second place world record at Spearpoint Ranch in Barnard, Kansas. Not only is Jaclyn’s record setting shot impressive, but the team was also able to take first in the Heavy Team Division thanks to Shane Bryan leading the field with a whopping 12 impacts ranging from 2073 to 3638 yards (roughly 1-2 miles).
“It’s hard to overlook the abilities of our Pro Team,” says Dustin Harding, the Senior Marketing Manager for Athlon Optics. “The Bryans are exceptional shooters, having competed in several King of 2 Mile events and a multitude of PRS style matches. Jaclyn’s rifle sports a 1st generation Athlon Optics Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 and Shane’s rifle is equipped with a Cronus BTR GEN2 4.5-29x56. Dustin concludes, “their accomplishments prove that affordable price points and quality can coexist.”
When Jaclyn was asked if she feels motivated to beat the current world record, she shrugged it off, and reinforced that she shoots ELR for the love of the sport. While setting records is fun, she more so enjoys the quality time with her husband. Jaclyn is currently only 2 yards shy of the current world record held by good friend and teammate—Robert Brantley—who Shane was spotting for when he got the record.
