Ohio's Centerburg Youth Shooting Sports Takes Intermediate/Entry Level Div. Trap National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Centerburg Youth Shooting Sports squad of Ohio broke 944 of their 1,000 targets to take first place and the Trap national title in the Intermediate/Entry Level Division during competition at the 2017 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

Gavin Debord of Mt. Vernon led Centerburg with 191, followed by Alex Pore of Butler with 190, Joshua Brown of Cardington with 189, Tuff Hutchins of Fredericktown with 188 and Rylan Baker of Mount Vernon with 186.

Illinois' Carlinville Clay Busters took second with 907 and were led by Ben Warwick of Auburn with 189, followed by Luke Lorton of Greenfield with 184, Gavin Rynders of Greenfield with 182, Boedy Baker of Carlinville with 177 and Conner McEvers of Greenfield with 175.

Third place went to a second Centerburg Youth Shooting Sports squad. Logan Small of Fredericktown led with 187, followed by Nathan Hudson of Westerville with 183, Ayden Oswalt of Butler with 183, Lukas Serenko of Westerville with 178 and Mason Powell of Fulton with 174.

Wisconsin's Central Falcons claimed fourth place with 879 targets and were led by Bryce Michels of Kenosha with 186, followed by Cody Miller of Bristol with 179, Ty Andreoli of Kenosha with 174, Alex Bush of Burlington with 171 and Greyson Ponder of Antioch, (Ill.) with 169.

Rounding out the top five were shooters with the Buckeye Chippewa Trapshooting Club of Ohio. The squad broke 864 targets and were led by Robert (Bobby) Gochenour III of Barberton with 182, followed by Mason Slinger of Marshallville with 180, Dylan Kress of Clinton with 173, Aiden Porter of North Royalton with 171 and Ian Tackett of Tallmadge with 158.

Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, more than 2,300 athletes representing 29 states faced over one million clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 14,800 students and more than 3,300 adult volunteers across 45 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
