Philmont Scout Ranch is a place where scouts come to challenge themselves and learn new skills in an unforgettable outdoor setting. Within that high-adventure environment, shooting sports play an important role: offering structured, supervised opportunities for participants to learn discipline and respect for safety and procedure.

IFG's ongoing donations help Philmont maintain reliable equipment for a large volume of participants every season. That support matters at Philmont's scale: as Philip Ferrier, Sr. Associate Director of Camping at Philmont explained, "[IFG's] contributions have been huge for our program. We had 22,615 participants last summer, the vast majority of which took part in shooting programs."

Real Impact Measured in Experiences

Ferrier's feedback reflects a program that's not only active, but transformative for many who participate. According to Ferrier, "At least 6,443 Scouts were introduced to a shooting discipline that they were previously unfamiliar with," a tangible reminder that these programs often serve as the first step into a new skillset when guided by qualified staff and a safety-first culture.

He goes on to point out that of the 24,456 muzzleloading rounds fired last season, the vast majority came from firearms provided by IFG. That is trust at scale. It's Philmont staff choosing to rely on IFG-supported equipment to deliver consistent instruction day after day.
